Pink Cosmos Mix
Pink Cosmos Mix
(Cosmos bipinnatus)
This mix is a great addition to a dye garden and is also very popular with pollinators and birds. You’ll find an array of petal types (single, double, tubular, etc.) and multiple beautiful colors from an elegant white with a stripe of pink, to blooms that are a deep pinkish magenta.
We enjoy hammering Cosmos flowers on mordanted fabric, and seeing the wide variety of results from the different plants. In past years we would just wing it with Tatakizome (the Japanese art of pounding flowers into fabric), and our results were hit-or-miss. The crisp results in these pictures were from following Liz Spencer’s (The Dogwood Dyer) detailed instructions in her Bundle Dyeing + EcoPrinting tutorial.
Transplant seedlings after danger of frost, or direct sow after your last frost date. They prefer warmer soils for germination. These plants can get 4-5’ tall, so make sure to give them some space!
