Ratibida columnifera

Drought tolerant perennial wildflower. This cultivar has deep red petals. Popular with small native bees.

The flowers of this plant can be used to get grayish purple through bluish sage on wool, and the leaves can be used to get earthy yellows/tans on wool. We had some interesting ecoprint results on cotton: Purple from the flowers, and bright yellow from the leaves/stems.

Start seeds indoors or direct sow autumn through spring. This species readily self-seeds.
