(Ocimum africanum)

This temperate species of Sacred Basil is a little more forgiving than the tropical Ocimum tenuiflorum. We became infatuated with this variety while James was working for Wild Garden Seed and would come home smelling heavenly after an afternoon of harvest or threshing. Wild Garden Seed acquired their starter seed from Abundant Life Seed in the early 1980s, and have been propagating it ever since.

We like to use it fresh in salads, or dried for use as a relaxing herbal tea. Mix it with dried butterfly pea flowers or black magic bachelors button flowers to make a tea that looks as fruity as it tastes ❤.
