American Bugleweed

(Lycopus americanus)
This native wetland mint is common throughout the United States. It has a nice musky smell (not similar to culinary mints). Our original seed stock comes from wetlands in Northern Utah that are being lost due to development. The small flowers are a favorite of tiny native bees, wasps, and butterflies.
Plants slowly spread via rhizomes like other mints, and are great to pair with wetland sedges, swamp milkweed, and goldenrod.
Seeds are slow to germinate, and can benefit from 4-8 weeks of cold stratification. They require light to germinate, so scattering on soil surface is ideal.
