Bloomsdale Long Standing Spinach
Bloomsdale Long Standing Spinach
Spinacia oleracea
We’re thrilled to offer this exceptional spinach variety from our friends at Bug Farms in Salt Lake City, Utah. Known for its cold tolerance and robust flavor, Bloomsdale Long Standing Spinach is a favorite at Bug Farms. Here’s more about this beloved variety from Kristen at Bug:
Bloomsdale Long Standing Spinach has long been our go-to variety at Bug Farms for late fall, winter, and early spring harvests. We love it for its dark color and semi-savoyed leaves, and its buttery rich sweetness after it endures a couple of frosts. Being incredibly cold tolerant, we often plant it in September for winter and very early spring harvests. When given ample space, the plants and leaves become quite large and robust with sturdy stems that can be bunched. Sow seeds more tightly for a harvest of baby leaves. We love this variety so much we started growing our own seed to ensure we always have it in our repertoire!
Spinach seed prefers cool weather for germination, so avoid planting in warmer months. For baby spinach sow up to 5 seeds per inch, and for bunching spinach direct sow up to 10 seeds per foot.
