(Lupinus succulentus)
Arroyo lupine is a fast growing annual that will reach up to 3.5’ depending on soil type, much taller than most annual lupines. It prefers full sun and clay soil. We grew it with Utah sweetvetch and yellow bee plant, and enjoyed how the colors played together.
We lightly rake the seeds into the soil in early spring, and let them come up with spring rain. They bloom from late spring through early summer and then self-seed heavily. Even with all the seed harvesting we did, we will have lupines coming up for years to come!
This lupine species is native to southern California, northwestern Mexico, and Arizona.
