Lovage
Lovage
Levisticum officinale
Lovage is a robust perennial herb with a bold flavor similar to celery, but more savory and complex. It’s a fantastic addition to soups, salads, and dressings, bringing depth and richness to your dishes. Guy especially loves making a zesty sauce with garlic, olive oil, lemon juice, and lovage to drizzle over white fish. The hollow stems of the leaves and flower stalks also make excellent, flavorful straws for a Bloody Mary!
For planting, sow seeds 1/8–1/4” deep. Germination can take 2-3 weeks, and because of occasional dormancy, it’s a good idea to sow a few extra seeds to ensure a successful start. We recommend transplanting your seedlings after the danger of frost has passed, spacing them about 2 feet apart, as the plants can grow quite large after their first year.
